Louie…Louie…Luis

How does one get from there to here? I guess that’s one of the eternal questions that gets asked again and again. The answer could probably also be boiled down to something inane. Like plots for a TV show or movie there are some stock variations.
But if the writing is really good, or the perspective is shared from a different angle, then you have a story that is worth being told and worth the effort to listen well.

I’m looking forward to the stories that will be share at KPCC’s Crawford Family Forum on January 5th. The Three Louies will share how they got from East L.A. to the places they’ve seen and how they are different for having been wherever “there” was.
Luís J. Rodriguez has “fourteen published books in memoir, fiction, nonfiction, children’s literature and poetry. His best known work is “Always Running: La Vida Loca, Gang Days in L.A.”
Louie Pérez, Garfield High School graduate, is a founding member of Los Lobos. THe is a composer, instrumentalist and visual artist. Yeah, I was surprised to learn that he is a visual artist, too. His work “Bean Stigmata” is a part of the exhibit at the Vincent Price Art Museum.
Luís Torres has a voice that has launched a thousand Google searches. He is a Peabody Award winner – a journalist, writer and filmmaker based in Los Angeles. He developed the four part series Chicano! History of the Mexican American Civil Right Movement and produced Los Lobos first record.
Anyone of these fellows could be entertaining and illuminating. Three Louies in conversation will make for a truly memorable night.
I understand that there might be some juggling involved and there’ll be opportunities for questions.
All this in Pasadena at KPCC’s Crawford Family Forum. Hope to see you there.
