One night a week of Levitt Pavilion’s free summer concert series is devoted to the little ones who walk amongst us—children. We’ll be spotlighting these weekly offerings in this space all summer long, so keep your eyes peeled—you never know where the next Raffi might come from.
Of all the Kid’s Night performers so far, this week’s entertainment comes closest to the Raffi mantle (though this is maybe not so surprising when the competition is mostly puppets). Brian Vogan is a singer, songwriter and early childhood music educator from Seattle. He used to teach Pre-K, where he used an “emergent curriculum,” i.e. building lesson plans out of students’ passions and interests. His debut album, Little Songs, was constructed the same way, with lots of help from his young students. GeekDad, in the Wired.com family of blogs, named it one of the best kids CDs of the decade—“for younger kids who want to dance around.” One of the songs, “That’s How a Pumpkin Grows,” has a charming music video. Catchy tunes!
