The Courage to Write Workshop: Free!

Aug 27, 2013

writing-a-book-1Find your voice. Walk (write) through various modes of writing. Work, share, listen, learn, and play. Solicit your hutzpah and enroll in a hands-on workshop with author Esther Bradley-DeTally.

Beginning Friday, September 20th, Esther will lead a free six-week writing workshop at La Pintoresca Branch Library.

One of her groups just came out with an e-book Authors in Our Midst, published by Pasadena California Public Library and Gene Cartwright & Falcon Creek Publishing.

Esther writes:

Here at La Pint, in the Courage to Write workshop, we are loose. Some people come in on the edge of Pulitzer training, others come in never having written….I give prompts and I teach methods of writing or styles which are related to many things: getting your voice out, finding the tones of voice.…using writing almost as a chant or a song. If writers are new, we write like we talk which is hard for experienced writers.

We might use every multisyllabled word imaginable and write literary prose, or…we will go on to straight talk, which is slang, and the unexpected twist. The idea is to throw inky words on the white pages and not to be afraid to do so. The results are incredible.

Here are two examples of finished works:

Homelessness by Sherrie N. Stamps

Dancing in Tunes by Esther Bradley-DeTally
