At Vroman’s: Making It; or, How to Not Be a Consumer

Jun 12, 2011

Coyne and Knutzen

Urban homesteading, despite the recent trademark kerfuffle, is a broad movement with practitioners all over the world. Among those practitioners are Kelly Coyne and Erik Knutzen, Silver Lake residents and authors of The Urban Homestead, a handy guide to growing stuff for city dwellers. They’ve followed this well-received volume up with Making It: Radical Home Ec for a Post-Consumer World, a collection of step-by-step instructions and illustrations for all sorts of DIY projects—not just gardening and farming, but building solar ovens and making soap and the like. They’ll be at Vroman’s this Friday night to talk about the book.
