Eastside Property: A chance to live high above Sunset

Sep 30, 2013

This 104-year-old home in Angeleno Heights has a Sunset Boulevard address. But finding the front door might be a bit tricky.

The two-story home and several others sit on a bluff about 40 feet above the street, with pedestrian access off Sunset provided via a short stairway and pathway that climbs up the hill and past the block of homes. The location atop the bluff provides privacy from the busy street below, where bars and restaurants, such as The Short Stop and El Compadre, draw a crowd.

It looks like some of the home’s original features have been stripped away over the decades, but the house  still retains a lot of historic character with built-in cabinets, window and door moldings, wainscoting and a front porch. While those elements may appeal to preservation-minded buyers, others might be attracted to the home’s relatively large size – which at about 2,000 square-feet is big for Angeleno Heights and Echo Park – and three, off-street parking spaces, which are accessible through a rear alley, according to the listing on Redfin.

How much? The owners are asking $749,000.
