Make It & Take It: Thanksgiving Pies with Jennie Cook

Nov 16, 2015

pumpkin-piesYou may know Jennie Cook through her plant-based parties, enjoyed one of her catered lunches on a commercial set, or purchased her 2013 cookbook Who Wants Seconds?.

But did you know she loves pie? She loves, loves pie. And she’s been making holiday pies with family, friends, and soon-to-be friends since 2008 at her “Make It & Take It” event the Sunday before Thanksgiving.

When my kids were little they went to a crunchy hippy school, ran around barefoot and learned all about critical thinking and camping. As a bonus, during the holiday season, one of the teachers would do a two day happening where the little bobbins made presents for their friends and family. I still have a cutting board with a carrot logo and a foot stool from this happening. Ever since, I’ve been craving my own holiday happening with a great takeaway. Oh! I know! PIE!

In Jennie’s words…

Please bring:
An apron! It gets messy in the kitchen with so many
pie makers running about.

A beer mug! For obvious reasons. Also handy for water and lemonade.

A pie plate! To make your pie in. We have all the ingredients but please bring your own dish so you can take it home.

Cost: Entrance is $20 per adult and $15 per child

That includes: Vegan Friendly Lunch, Beer from my neighbors, Eagle Rock Brewers, and Entertainment!

Pies are priced as follows: Pumpkin $12; Apple $15; Pecan $16. We supply all the ingredients.

Come early if you want to eat lunch first, or stay after to bask in the glory of your hard-work! The band will be playing and the beer will be flowing all afternoon.

Children are welcome and we encourage them to come, with adult supervision. One adult per two kids, please. We give them knives and hot pans are flying.
