What does it mean to “be a man” in America today? That’s the question Tom Matlack posed to Pulitzer winners and Poet Laureates to ex-cons, yogis, Pro Football Hall of Famers and just everyday guys. Their experiences, from their defining challenges to their losses and triumphs, are collected in Matlack’s new book, and he’s hoping it will spark conversations—on the street, subway and around the dinner table—about what about what it means to be a good man today.
