Every year, Altadena Heritage throws an awards ceremony honoring the finest in Altadena gardening—the coveted Golden Poppy. The focus this year is on sustainability. Prize winners will be those green (figuratively) gardens that “give” to the street without a big green (literally) lawn sucking down water like it was going out of style. Which it is. Native, drought-tolerant plants, on the other hand, are very much in style.
The party is at Altadena Heritage member Pat Corcoran’s home, a classic Spanish Revival house with a big avocado marriage tree in the garden. Distinguished cellist Diego Miralles will serenade Poppy-hopefuls while they enjoy tea, wine and each other. The quintessential Altadena Heritage summer celebration.
