This is the sentiment towards Pasadena’s shelter for homeless, pregnant women and their children. “Alumnae” are known to return for reunions or special events like a summer barbecue, the annual Christmas party, and educational seminars.
Another special event is their annual gala, to be emceed by weekday anchor for Studio 11 L.A. at KTTV, Fox 11, Jeff Michael—who is back by popular demand.
“It’s impossible not to feel the welcoming spirit when you walk into Elizabeth House,” Michael says. “There, you’ll find a family with so much love for one another!”
The gala will be held Saturday, March 23rd at Noor in the Paseo Colorado. There will be a reception and silent auction, followed by dinner, a live auction, and dancing. Auction items include a fishing trip for two in Wyoming; a one-week stay at a home on Coronado Island; a ladies Tanzanite diamond ring; tickets to Ahmanson Theatre, as well as to various comedy clubs; and certificates for rounds of golf at courses throughout Los Angeles.
“At the gala, everyone wins,” states Executive Director Debbie Unruh. “If your bid isn’t the winning bid, you have the satisfaction of knowing that the money raised will help us continue to provide not only a safe refuge for homeless pregnant women and their children, but a comprehensive program of case management, counseling, educational classes, and prenatal care.”
Last year, the gala brought in a net $130,000. These funds enabled Elizabeth House to open its long-awaited Transitional House, which since last July has served four alumnae families in need of ongoing support.
“We change lives at Elizabeth House,” adds Terry Bright, Director of Programs. “As our alumnae prove time and time again, we help our mothers become empowered, productive members of society.”
