Life of Galileo

May 14, 2009

This month Theater Arts at Caltech present Bertolt Brecht’s Life of Galileo. Tackling the conflict between dogmatism and scientific evidence, Brecht’s play takes place during the latter period of Galileo’s life, when the great philosopher was being persecuted by the Roman Catholic Church for the promulgation of his scientific discoveries. The production is directed by Brian Brophy (who performed in Shawshank Redemption and Star Trek: The Next Generation, among other films), head of Theater Arts at Caltech. The cast features undergraduate students, graduate students and JPL engineers. Yes, you read that right, JPL engineers performing Brecht. We’re looking forward to

The performance also ties in with Caltech’s Galileo Conference, held on May 23rd.
