Brahms’ Requiem with the Pasadena Master Chorale

Apr 3, 2011

Last time we checked in with the PMC, in January, they were performing Mozart’s Requiem—fitting music for what passes for winter in these parts. With spring now in the air, it’s only fitting that the PMC would do… another Requiem? Yes! Brahms’ Requiem, in fact, which is a staggering piece of music. Brahms wrote an arrangement for choir and two pianos (“four hands,” they say in the biz), which he called “altogether splendid,” and that’s what the PMC will be performing this Saturday. Joining the choir are soprano Krystle Casey, bass-baritone Scott Graf, and pianists Shawn Kirchner and Alan Steinberger. We have little doubt that the PMC will do justice to Brahms’ masterwork.

It has nothing to do with the PMC, but no post about Brahms is complete without a link to this video. You can thank me later.
