One of Eagle Rock’s several new hot spots, Larkin’s occupies a restored Craftsman house with a wrap-around front porch and a convivial living room and parlor. Hipster families and Eagle Rock oldtimers alike come for the casual, friendly vibe and traditional Southern cooking with a bit of Mexican and California flair. Best bets include the wonderfully rich mac ‘n’ cheese, Mexican-style chile verde soup, skillet-fried chicken, really spicy greens, garlicky roast corn and such smooth, delicious desserts as banana pudding and sweet potato pie. Prices are modest, but so are portion sizes.
