From Grassroots, Descanso, & the Senior Center to Julienne

Nov 11, 2013

thanksgiving-turkeyAre we really 17 days away from Thanksgiving? If this fact stops you in your tracks, elevates your blood pressure, and makes your heart skip a few beats because, “How in the heck am I going to arrange a feast for family and friends in such a short period of time while juggling my boss, two new clients, and a new project; playing chauffeur to and from soccer, basketball, volleyball, and football practices and games; getting the car tuned up and the bathroom plumbing fixed; and all the other normal, everyday duties of being a human?” then maybe a prepared holiday meal should be on your radar this year.

Julienne in San Marino is known as a touch of Europe in the reclaimed lands of Southern California. With its vaulted ceiling, dark wood walls, book-lined side room, and outdoor dining patio, it’s quite easy to imagine that you’ve landed in “gay Paris,” for a moment’s sojourn.

Julie of Julienne offers an array of holiday meals and individual items to make your holiday easier and yummier. A dinner for six includes a spinach salad, rosemary currant rolls, garlic mashed potatoes, brown sugar mustard glazed carrots, a boneless turkey breast, homemade gravy, and Julienne stuffing. For an added $40, you have a choice of wine (2 bottles): Beaujolais Villages or Pinot Blanc.

The slow roasted turkey breast is glazed with orange marmalade and mustard seeds with Julienne stuffing under the skin. Along with the mashed potatoes, they offer puréed sweet potatoes and yams with dried cranberry and pecan garnish or roasted buttercup, acorn, and butternut squash.

Desserts abound with a Julienne pumpkin pie with orange zest pâte sucrée crust, maple bourbon pecan pie, marbled pumpkin cheesecake tart with gingersnap garnish, chocolate gingerbread cookies, and pumpkin olive oil teacake.

Monday, November 25th at noon is the deadline for placing orders, but obviously the sooner the better. Pick up is Wednesday, November 27th, 10 a.m.-4 p.m.

Available for your holiday menu are fresh whole turkeys, whole smoked turkeys, turkey breasts (bone-in or boneless), turkey parts, as well as geese (geese?!), and duck from Long Island.

If you want an oven-ready turkey, they will clean and season your turkey with herb pesto (butter, garlic, fresh rosemary, fresh sage, fresh thyme, salt, paprika, and pepper) and stuff it with onions and lemon, all ready to go in its own foil roasting pan. Voilá.

Grassroots suggests trying their “mouthwatering” vegan lentil loaf with vegan mushroom gravy and they offer traditional pumpkin pies, as well as vegan, gluten free, and vegan and gluten free pies.

Orders and a deposit must be made by Monday, November 25th at noon with pick-up Wednesday, November 27th, noon-6 p.m.
