Beacon soft-opened last week at the Echo Park Lake Boathouse, Eater LA reports. For now, expect all-day coffee, tea and pastry by chef Emmanuel Garcia. However, things are about to turn up a notch as the menu becomes more formalized with an expanded lunch menu, and the Boathouse eventually turns into a dinner destination.

- Is it a surprise that Honey Hi in Echo Park serves Ayurvedic jam and gluten-free toast? LA Weekly apparently thinks not. In the review, writer Ben Mesirow says it’s only a shock that Honey Hi has not been here longer. The “health-conscious, vegan-friendly, immaculately designed breakfast and lunch spot is almost too obvious a match for this period in Echo Park history.”
- Be a part of dineL.A. week (January 13 to 27) without leaving the Eastside. Los Angeles Magazine complied a list of the 10 best restaurants to dine at, and two are on the Eastside. Prix-fixe menus at $39 are at Alimento and Café Birdie. Alimento is located in the 1700 block of Silver Lake Boulevard in Silver Lake. Café Birdie is located in the 5600 block of N. Figueroa Street.
- Sage Vegan Bistro in Echo Park got a revamp during the holidays. Shiny new floors, wood tables and corrugated metal walls were some of the spruce-ups. Sage Vegan Bistro is located in the 1700 block of Sunset Boulevard, on the corner of Sunset Boulevard and Lemoyne.
