East Hollywood — Fans of the Smog Cutter mourned its closing last year after nearly three decades of serving up inexpensive drinks and hosting countless nights of karaoke. Now, a newcomer has taken over the same spot: Equal Parts.

Owners Reza Samadi and Adam Ohler, who also operate the Corner Shop convenience store on Hoover, opened the doors to Equal Parts on Saturday with a menu featuring classic cocktails, wine and beer. And, yes, there will be karaoke.

Ohler, who has worked as a sommelier at such upscale bars and restaurants like Republique and Lucques, has put an emphasis on “well-crafted, unpretentious drinks.”

“Equal Parts is a balancing act between high and low, with something for everyone,” said Ohler,  said in a press release. “My goal is to have the best beer and wine program ever seen in a dive bar complimented by a cocktail list that focuses on the classics – great versions of those unimprovable, battle-tested drinks everyone knows and loves.”

Karaoke will return on Monday and Thursday nights. A Happy Hour  will run every weekday from 2 pm – 7 pm with $4 beers, $5 tall cans, $6 wines and $8 classic cocktails.

Equal Parts is at 864 N. Virgil Avenue
