Seed Bakery

Dec 16, 2015

Seed-bakery-1It all started with Joseph who was born in a barn.

Next to a wheat field.

Who grew up to mill whole grains,

Ferment,

And bake bread.

Though inexpertly poetic, the above intro is not entirely true¹, but it’s humorous, and we like funny. And we like good, lovingly made homemade bread. We actually adore it beyond reason. Which brings us to the point: Seed Bakery. In Pasadena. Homemade breads where the grains are whole and milled only hours before making the dough. Where fermentation is a 12-hour process in order to “enhance flavor and shelf life” of the bread, “get rid of anti nutrients which interfere with our absorption,” and break down gluten so the breads are easier to digest.

Sprouted sunflower, pumpkin and sesame seeds along with organic whole wheat and pumpernickel are used in Seed Bakery’s 100% Sprouted Whole Grain Seeded Ciabatta. Flaxmeal goes into the rye with cranberries bread. Other options on the menu are Kamut, a kalamata olive boule, Einkorn, Farro, whole wheat with walnuts, 100% rye, and a whole grain rustic country baguette.

Since opening this past April, Seed Bakery has expanded to not only offer bread, but also breakfast and lunch items like French toast brioche with homemade jam, eggs and toast, lentils with a fried egg, and a ham cheddar leek panini.
