Ancient Roots to Chinatown & Art of Fresh Pasta

Jan 11, 2016

600px-20150608최광모DSC00705Victuals and libations, history and knowledge is a combination that is truly tailored to our interests. The Huntington and Urban Kitchen present two classes, which we believe will satisfy on all counts:

  • Art Bites’ Taste of Art: From Ancient Roots to Chinatown
  • Art of Fresh Pasta

Maite Gomez-Rejón of Art Bites connects with the current “Y. C. Hong: Advocate for Chinese-American Inclusion” exhibit at the Huntington and discusses Chinese immigration in the early days of Los Angeles and explains the development of Chinese-American cuisine. After a gallery tour and discussion, guests will proceed to the kitchen to prepare—and eat—a contemporary Chinese-American meal.

Taste of Art: From Ancient Roots to Chinatown
Saturday, Jan. 23rd, 9 a.m.
Huntington, 1151 Oxford Rd., San Marino 91108

Chef Michelle Hohman of Urban Kitchen in South Pasadena believes “pasta-making is both zen and artistic.” There is no doubt pasta is more delicate if made by hand, and more flavorful. “You’ll make dough from scratch for filled and cut pasta with two deliciously simple sauces.”

Menu example:

  • Caesar salad with garlic crostini
  • Three-cheese tortellini with pesto
  • Fettucini Alfredo
  • Nutella Panna Cotta topped with espresso whipped cream

Two hours are spent preparing, wine is sipped and enjoyed, and an hour is reserved for enjoying a bountiful feast. “Mangiamo!”

Every time we decide we’ll find the time for an Urban Kitchen class, it’s sold out, so we recommend reserving a spot well in advance.
