Worth the Click

Published: Tuesday, June 30th, 2009

I’m not even going to bother with a lengthy preamble for these links.  They’re so good, they need no qualification.  Plus I just ate, and I am way groggy.

  • I can’t quote any of this post, for reasons that will be apparent when you’ve clicked through and read it.  Suffice to say, it’s very funny stuff.
  • I can and will quote this thoughtful response to my Wilco post of yesterday:  “All of which suggests to me that, for all that there’s an attempt to set up a correlation between large record labels and large publishing houses, there’s one key difference: the editorial aspect is in place for a musician in a place  (in theory) separate from the institution charged with promoting and distributing their work, while on the publishing side, the editorial component is not.”
  • Must read:  Robert Lanham at the Morning News on Hipsters:  “First and foremost, hipsterism is about stuff. It’s the natural byproduct of a consumption-obsessed culture with a thriving middle class. The complete works of Johnny Cash on vinyl. An iPhone packed with apps. Thick-framed glasses without the lenses. Throw in an unwavering certainty that your tastes are superior to everyone else’s, and you’re on your way to establishing a hipster aesthetic.”  (via @EdanL)
  • And finally, if you were confused by The Transformers 2 movie that opened this past weekend, you weren’t alone.  I think that’s the most cringe-inducing interview I’ve ever seen.  It’s so pervy, I kind of can’t believe they ran it on CBS (”America’s Fastest Growing Network,” whatever that means).
