The Advent of the Holiday Season

Nov 22, 2015

Painted in WaterlogueCurrently we have no religious affiliation, but we did grow up attending church regularly. Because of this, we have an abiding affection for sitting in empty chapels and a joy of Christmas carols.

The chapel will not be empty this Advent season at All Saints Church, but the compelling sound of music will eliminate any hesitancy we might feel.

From November 29 through December 20, All Saints Church welcomes everyone, offering troubadours, choirs, handbells, and master singers during the Christian Season of Advent.

Sunday, Nov. 29: Minisingers, master singers, and troubadours provide the music of Larson & Crunk, directed by Jenny Tisi. A meditation will be lead by Laura Thornton, followed by a potluck supper and Advent wreath making.

Sunday, Dec. 6: A candlelit church and the Coventry Choir for carols, motets, and canticles of “intense, mystical beauty.” A meditation by Ed Bacon. Music by Mendelssohn, Montoya, Busto, and Howells.

Sunday, Dec. 13: Trouvères, Youth Chamber Choir, and Vox cambiata with handbells and piano. Music of Helvey, Englert, Shepperd, Stokes, and Norris. Jeremy Langill offers a meditation.

Sunday, Dec. 20: Advent Evensong with the Canterbury Choir and brass and percussion ensemble performing Gloria by John Rutter. Ed Bacon presides and Susan Russell offers a meditation. A special service to close the Advent season.
