PopOok Graphic 7_cropWhat’s a PopOok? We have no idea. We’ll let those in the know explain

In celebration of Free Comic Book Day 2016, the Allendale Branch Library hosts a discussion and signing with Hamo Bahnam, the creative force behind PopOok!.

A semi-annual comic/music zine that showcases great talent from coast to coast and Canada, PopOok! has been publishing since 2011. Each issue includes a music CD of sounds that cover everything from “pop” to noise. A multifaceted publication, PopOok! may include pullouts, mini zines, extra flaps, etc., and all covers are hand-printed in multi-colors, utilizing stencils, linoleum blocks, or screenprinting. Tape glue staples! PopOok! avoids a slick professional image for a more classic DIY style that screams human touch.

Hamo Bahnam

Hamo Bahnam is an artist who received his MFA in printmaking from the University of Tennessee, Knoxville. For this very special event, Bahnam will be joined by other artists who have contributed to PopOok!, including Marcel deJure and Steve Escandon. The program will also feature a sound performance by Sleepwalkers Local, the umbrella term for all things musical and otherwise created by Grant Capes. Back issues of PopOok! will be available for sale and signing.

Light refreshments will be served.
