Our friends Steve Ellison and Sue Smrekar have been sending reports and photos from Pasadena’s own backyard mountain, Waterman, which is back in action this season after being shut down for a few years.
It’s open only on weekends, but so far it hasn’t been crowded at all, and the snow’s been fantastic, as evidenced by this photo from Steve. Lift tickets are just $45 ($20 for kids and $35 for teens), and if you haven’t been, it’s one of the great perks of living near the San Gabriel Mountains — it’s only an hour from Pasadena, up the Angeles Crest Highway. I’d be up there myself tomorrow, except I’m headed to Mammoth, where the base is sixteen feet and the sun is expected to shine!
