July 4th: Celebrate!

ScreenShot20120702at11.46.54AMWhether you like your hot dogs barbecued, a sky of fireworks, patriotic bands, a parade of small town floats, or motorcycle stuntmen to make your 4th of July a day of meaning and fun, San Gabriel Valley has it for you. Here’s a rundown of offerings:

Rose Bowl: the big daddy event in the area, this year’s America Fest will have Mariachi Divas, motorcycle stuntmen, and Kenny G., and PyroSpectaculars by Souza.
Thursday, July 4th
2 p.m.: area H for food and games
7 p.m.: motorcycle stunts, Mariachi Divas, and Kenny G.
9 p.m. fireworks

Thursday, July 4th
Noon: food vendors, carnival games
7:30 p.m.: community-based intertainment and Surfin Safari Band
9 p.m.: Fireworks (26 minutes)

Altadena: “Fireworks and Food Trucks”
Tuesday, July 2nd, 6-10 p.m.
The Altadena Chamber of Commerce welcomes Slammin’ Sliders, Cousins Maine Lobster, Sweet Arleen’s Cupcakes, A Rockin’ Ice, and Greasy Wiener
Firework display hosted by Altadena Town & Country Club
Location: Altadena Golf Course parking lot and adjacent streets

Arcadia: refreshments, live music, bleacher or field seating

City of San Gabriel: parade, watermelon eating contest, barbecue, games, entertainment, and refreshments.

La Crescenta: music and rides

Gates open, 4 p.m.; fireworks, 9 p.m.

Tickets: $5; children under 2 free

Noon: carnival rides, food vendors
5 p.m.: opening ceremonies, live entertainment

Cost: $12 for unlimited carnival rides. All other events are free.

Sierra Madre: Gooden School students will lead veterans serving as Grand Marshals. Watch for 10-year-old Gooden student Daniel Kyle who will be riding in a Red Flyer wagon because his tuba is too heavy for him to carry for the one-mile route.
