In Full Bloom

Mar 16, 2014

resizedimage600400-MarchCherryBlossomFestWe’d say, “Spring is in the air” with Decscanso Garden‘s upcoming annual Cherry Blossom Festival, but the temperatures have felt like the heat of summer. Nonetheless, the weather “experts” are predicting a pleasant 68º-72º F, over the weekend, so plan your day accordingly as parking spaces are quickly claimed (plan to park off site and walk in) and by 10 a.m., the ticket line can all ready appear daunting (i.e., wear light clothing and a hat; bring an umbrella, bottled water, and maybe a newspaper or good conversationalist).

The effort is worth it if fluffs of pink magic make you feel lighter than air (refer to photo above).

Walk on your own or join one of four “Cherry Blossom Walk & Talk” tours throughout the day. Take a break at the Under the Oaks Theater and listen to June Kuramoto play the koto, the national instrument of Japan. Re-charge enjoying yakitori (grilled skewers of a variety of items) and other Japanese-inspired items at the Camellia Lounge. Learn the traditional art of paper folding by origami master Yami Yamauchi.
