It’s November and for those of us who grew up in colder climates, we remember the twenty minutes it could take to bundle up in layers in an attempt to ward off the freezing temperatures outside. And still the icy winds and snow would find that gap between sleeve cuff and mitten or wool cap and scarf. Always. Amazing.
Nonetheless, we would grab our skates and head to the nearest pond, our fingers quickly growing numb as we hurried to tie our skates before heading out onto the frozen, uneven surface with captured twigs, leaves, and rocks. Our ankles would quickly ache as we weebled and wobbled before finding our “skating” legs for another year.
Here in Southern Cal, ice skating can be a whole lot smoother. Starting this Saturday, November 16th, the Westfield Santa Anita mall will have free ice skating outside along the promenade. We just spoke with Steve, Marketing Director of Westfield Santa Anita, who told us not to worry, the skates are free, too.
A “Winter Wonderland” party with kids crafting, live music, holiday treats and beverages, an ice carving show, and real—on loan from Santa—reindeer will be on hand to officially welcome in the holidays on Sunday, November 17th, 4-8 p.m.
They say there will even be falling snow.
