Amateur Baker, Anyone?

So, we get a call the other day.

“Hello, I’m Scrschasl (weak cell phone connection)and I’m a producer for Scrschasl. We’re looking for amateur bakers and would like to spread the word in the Pasadena area.”

We listened to the message twice, but still couldn’t make out the name of the woman or the show, so we placed a call.

It appears that CBS will be holding an open casting call on Saturday, December 1st, for all amateur bakers in the Southland. The show to be cast is a competition and reality show along the lines of The Great British Bake Off, (which we personally have not seen, so we can’t profess to the quality or popularity of the show, though these days “reality” and “cooking” tend to draw in viewers by the droves).

Later that same day, we received an email from Cherish Hamutoff (aka “Scrschasl”), casting producer at Casting Duo. The official pitch states that you can audition if you are a “truck driver, athlete, teacher, retiree, and young or old,” just as long as baking is not the way you make your living. It can be a hobby and even a side business, but cannot be your primary source of income—and you cannot have ever had a full-time job as a baker.

If this sounds like you, check out the CBS Baking Show (let’s hope that they come up with a better title than that), cook your most delectable cake, pie, bread, or tart and head down to Chef’s, Inc. on Pico Boulevard in L.A.

Make San Gabriel proud, bakers!
