As the recent matters of LGBT youth bullying splash across newspaper headlines, leaders, activists, and artists across the nation are utilizing political and creative forces to combat the abuse. And many have already made strong moves. Major cities have hosted rallies against homophobic bullying, while individuals, celebrities, and companies have created nationally popular support memes on the Internet under the banner theme “It Gets Better.”
Members of the Pasadena community are joining in the effort: Bullied, taglined “A Student, a School, and Case That Made History,” documents the story of a young man’s experience with fighting anti-gay harassment. A Teaching Tolerance film, Bullied intends to help school leaders and students to create safer campus environments and encourages youth advocacy in response to peer harassment. The Pasadena resident and award-winning producer of Bullied, Bill Brummel, will be speaking and showing clips of his new documentary at the All Saints Rector’s Forum on Sunday. All Saints Church welcomes all residents to attend sermons and forums as they unite their voices to fight teen victimization.
