9th Annual South Pas. Eclectic Music Festival

May 1, 2017

It begins with Ozomatli, so how much more do we have to say to entice you to this year’s South Pasadena Eclectic Music Festival.

Right?

Are were done here?

Okay, we’ll share a bit more…

First, if you haven’t read our interview with Ozomatli band member Raul Pacheco, then you must.

Four stages! (And this doesn’t include music being performed at Canoe House, Crossings, and Griffins Pub, to name just a few.) The stages: The Gold Line, Eclectic, Carnegie, and Emerging have a line-up of 15 different performances.

The festival opens at 3 p.m. with OzoKids and the evening wraps up from 9 to 10 p.m. with Ozomatli.

Other performers include Lisa Haley & the Zydekats, the Elliott Caine Quintet, Hammers & Belles’ pop rock, the Irish/Scottish Ploughboys, and hometown musicians Shelby Gogreve and Taylor Plenn.

Art will be everywhere. SPACE once again leads its large scale public participation project. This year it’s “Bloom” at Library Park (across from Kaldi’s).

People are welcome to participate in Laurie Hendricks’ “Paint the Music—a Plein Air Paint-Out” with registration beginning at noon at the Laurie Hendricks Gallery. No charge to participate, but all participants must provide their own materials.

Kira Ott will fiddle while John-Michael Seng-Wheeler plays piano and Tom Moore, the “dance caller,” teaches everyone an Irish jig!

Join Vavé Studios and make free flower crowns, 4-8 p.m. with folk-rock duo The Deltaz performing.

DeMilo Design Studio invites festival-goers to come and make an individual print on its antique presses—”old presses have a  clanky rhythm of their own!” Also, pick up a letterpress poem by local poet and YA author, the incredible Ron Koertge.

There is so much going on—including food trucks and a beer & wine garden—so find your most comfortable pair of shoes, stuff some dolares in your pockets, sling a backpack over your shoulder, and get ready for some Eclectic!
