Locals who (understandably) complain that Old Pasadena is just another mall, if an outdoors one, need to get off Colorado Boulevard and explore the side streets—especially Holly Street, where a gaggle of indie merchants are thriving. Our new fave is the Loved One, aka TLO, a vintage boutique that recently set a group of college girls we know squealing with joy. Owners Elvia Lahman and Hannah Metz have been collecting vintage lingerie and womenswear (and some menswear) for years, just as a passion, and that led to pop-up shops in New York and LA that garnered lots of media attention. They finally decided to open a permanent boutique, and Pasadena is the richer for it. All your Mad Men fantasies will come true here—the ’50s and ’60s dresses and coats are particularly fabulous. You’ll also find little sweaters, boxy jackets, smart little hats, amusing brooches, and (inside the huge cabinet) lots of vintage lingerie in excellent condition. Prices are reasonable (dresses for $28 to $38, for instance) for the quality.
