The Big Shave West, Beerfest, Bandfest & BBQ

Apr 21, 2015

DSC02232As we reported over a year ago, Damon Stathatos is a fan. An avid fan. Of wet shaving.

At the end of 2013, he finally took his passion and raised the ante by opening the Old Town Shaving Company at the corner of Green Street and Raymond Avenue, right next door to the family business, The Shoppes at Stats.

At the same time, they were opening The Bea’s Knees in the same complex, selling wine, cheese, and gifts (many of them from local producers), as well as offering a deli and picnic menu.

On April 25th, these two operations are joining to present not only the The Big Shave West, but also a beer fest, band fest, and western-style barbecue.

Live wet shaving demonstrations will be given, along with seminars for the professional wet shaver and the “uninitiated.” Vendors both domestic and international will exhibit and explain their wares—razors, brushes, conditioners and molders, beard and mustache oils, pomades, essences, and aftershaves.

Chiseled Face, Phoenix Artisan, Blade & Stone, St. James of London, and Sweeney Todd’s Barbershop are among the vendors who will be on site. (Damon told us this morning that one vendor has just arrived from Australia!)

Twenty locally crafted and international beers will be poured and paired with various cheeses and even desserts.

The outdoor BBQ will offer Moroccan spiced rubbed chicken and Santa Maria seasoned beef. There will be gourmet sides and salads, too.

The Montecito Music and Media Bandfest—”all stinkin’ day long”—is thanks to Cool Face, Secret Gardeners, Shattered Skyline, Zach + Bridget, and Gregg Buchwalter.

Pre-paid swag bags have sold out but admission is free to see the wet shave demonstrations and visit vendors, hear speakers, drink beer and listen to live music. Guests may purchase a limited edition shave soap, an event program that offers valuable coupons, and a ticket for $10 for the barbecue lunch.
