Serial versus stand-alones. Yes, stand-alone is a noun, though we did flip through the American Heritage Dictionary to double-check. We should have known better than to doubt our primary source: author Laura Lippman.

In an interview with the Sacramento Bee, she says that her “stand-alones,” or rather her novels that are not a part of her Tess Monaghan series (eleven and counting), actually are her best sellers.

And San Gabriel fans of Ms. Lippman will have a chance to help authenticate that statement when the author discusses and signs her new stand-alone novel And When She Was Good on Monday, August 20th, 7 p.m. at Vroman’s.

Throughout the week, there will also be discussions and signings by Claudia and Alan Heller (Life on Route 66), Daniel Wolff (The Fight for Home, the aftermath of Katrina), Selden Edwards (The Lost Prince), and Dustin Thomason (12.21).
