Karol Franks attended this year’s Temecula Valley’s Balloon & Wine Festival at the end of May and kindly shares her photos, both untouched and photo-shopped to airlift us back in time, as though it might be the late 1800s.

A sunrise launch begins around 6:30 a.m., followed by tethered balloon rides for the beginner or the height averse. Once the sun sets, around 8 p.m. it’s time to set up the lawn chair and watch the balloons inflate their burners creating the “magical balloon glow.” And of course, rides in the hot air balloons, taking passengers to the treeline and up to 3,000 feet, are available for the ready and willing.
