Pics of a Bridge Party

Jul 18, 2014

Colorado St. Bridge 2014We arrived early and the grassy patch at Orange Grove and Colorado Boulevards was already flowing with people. Wreck ‘n Sow serenaded arrivals with their bluegrass sounds.

We walked along the pathway with a dozen children’s activity stations to our left and classic Mustangs on our right. Our enthusiasm erupted (rather embarrassingly with lots of gushing and babbling) when we came upon Ed and Charlene Gomez’ marvelous Mustang that had our absolute favorites—pony seats!

We walked the length of the bridge with our dear friend Vicki Laidig who knows almost everyone on the planet, meaning we stopped every few feet for introductions, hellos, and chit chat with wonderful, welcoming, friendly people (thank you, Vicki). Walking west with the sun in our eyes and feeling a wee bit parched, we stopped at one of the many bar pit stops and enjoyed a Craftsman lemon jager. We enjoyed, too, the sounds of the nine-member ensemble Freelancers and classic rock bands Stinky Felix and Mercy and the Merkettes. Soon the sun was going down, the bridge lights coming up, the booze was sinking in and hands were waving in the air and bodies were starting to move ‘n groove. We ended the evening with a bratwurst—so simple—with a cold but very fresh bun, a tad of mustard and a drip of barbecue sauce (the catsup was running low); perfectly delicious.

We walked away while the music was still rockin’ and the crowds still boisterous. We’ll see you again on the bridge, but not until 2016, so we hear.
