Pics from La Casita del Arroyo

IMG_3665It’s rounding toward 6 o’clock on a Friday afternoon, the mugginess of the day revealed by my shirt sticking to my skin in various places, too many places, almost to the point of making movement restricted. A feeling of continuous moistness on my skin, the feeling of sweat and a day’s amount of dirt clinging to my forearms, the insides of my elbows, the back of my neck. I’m desperate for a shower. My general discomfort as the result of a hot and humid day that folks east of us would just laugh at—has also produced an elevated level of crankiness, so when I see the gates of La Casita del Arroyo locked after I’d just been online and read that it was open from dawn to dusk, I have to consciously stop my jaw from clenching. But I see two cars parked in front of the locked gate, so I park on a side street, then walk across and see they’ve circumnavigated the gate by walking along a side path.

And from there, I am enchanted.

It was difficult to turn away from the dramatic, yet calming, colors of afternoon light on the Arroyo and the bridge, but I yanked myself away and walked around to the other side of La Casita and found steps leading to the back of the house…
