A Healing Garden

Sep 7, 2014

IMG_4059Weeping bottlebrush trees with drooping branches and fuzzy red blossom create a natural enclosure, an enclave, a haven. It’s South Pasadena’s Memory and Healing Garden at Garfield Park,┬ádesigned Lillian Montalvo and Mieke Kramer.

We’ve walked the path, stepped through the arches, sat on the benches, read the names. It’s a contemplative spot. In the early morning or as the day comes to an end, the light is dramatic and calming. It’s a place for memories of loved ones lost, but also a solace for those who may feel lost themselves.

The Healing Garden beckons and says, come sit. Here you are seen, you are heard, even in silence, the Garden whispers, whenever you need me.
