According to the most recent release by the Bureau of Labor Statistics 9.6% of Americans are unemployed. In late 2009, the U.S. Department of Agriculture revealed that 49 million Americans lack consistent access to food. Last month the U.S. Census Bureau released its poverty numbers and apparently 14.3 % of American’s are living at or below the poverty line (those numbers are still determined by a measure created in the 1960’s). Is it hyperbolic to even ponder the idea that America is driving down a crumbling road toward becoming a third world nation?
