“We Were Here”

The documentary “We Were Here” tracks the onslaught of the AIDS epidemic in the Castro district (the gay Mecca) of San Francisco that began in the mid-1970s. The film follows the personal and emotionally compelling stories of some of the people who lived through tumultuous time. We watch as they express the pain of loss and the confusion surrounding the disease, which was initially referred to as the “gay cancer.”
