Does your girl grab the carrot you’re trying to slice for her lunch and break into a One Direction tune? Or, maybe she’s more of a Florence and the Machine admirer? Do you hear your boy crooning in the shower sounding a little like Bruno Mars?
This May 31st and June 1st-4th, The Los Angeles Children’s Chorus is holding auditions for boys and girls, ages 8-12. The requirement? They gotta “love to sing.”
No previous experience is necessary, but the child must be serious about wanting to learn vocal technique, choral singing, and classical music. “Children audition in groups of five to ensure their comfort, and no preparation is necessary.”
LACC is made up of six choirs. Entry-level choirs practice once a week at Pasadena Presbyterian Church and, additionally, the children take musicianship classes and receive individual vocal training. Though the repertoire focuses on classical works, it does also include folk music from around the work, spirituals, gospel songs, jazz, as well as “new music.”
Public performances are an integral part of the LACC program with two choral concerts a year and attending major civic events. Premier choirs perform with the Los Angeles Philharmonic, the L.A. Opera, the Los Angeles Master Chorale, the Los Angeles Chamber Orchestra, and the Hollywood Bowl Orchestra.
So, whether your young’un sounds like Shakira or Michael Buble, if she or he loves singing, enjoys being part of a group, and is serious about learning, then auditioning for the LACC may be a great place to start.
