If your child has some pipes, it’s worth a visit this weekend to the open house for the Los Angeles Children’s Chorus, an acclaimed and serious program that’s based here in Pasadena. Held as a precursor to auditions for children ages 8 to 12 in June, the open house will include a brief performance by LACC’s Apprentice Choir, as well as interactive musicianship activities for visiting young singers and an introduction to the program.
Now in is 24th year, the LACC trains children who may not have had previous singing experience but who are dedicated and passionate to learning the craft and the art. This is serious business — the more experienced of the singers in the six choirs, and sometimes entire choirs, are regularly called to perform for such outfits as the Los Angeles Opera and the Hollywood Bowl Orchestra.
