Ted comes to Caltech.

TEDx The Brain is an event happening on Friday at Caltech. On Saturday, they are hosting a TEDx event just for young folks, grades 6-12, called “Feed Your Brain.”

The event will have 15 speakers, including Dr. Drew Pinsky, as well as have a poetry slam with the Poly Slam Team that won last year’s Los Angeles Classic Slam. They will be performing a group poem about the four separate lobes of the brain. Curtis Toyota will be performing separately.

Mr. Pitts will be conducting his Marshall Fundamental Secondary School Chamber Choir; they performed at one of LitFest Pasadena‘s fundraisers and were jaw-droppingly good. And, last but not least, the local group of cute young men, The Graves, will be performing (picture and video below).

The press release reads: Audience members are encouraged to participate throughout the day, both on stage and off.

One of the speakers will be Crystal Dilworth. She has a B.S. in Biochemistry from UC San Diego and is currently working towards her Ph.D. in Molecular Neuroscience at Caltech. Incredibly, she is also a violinist, a formerly nationally ranked rhythmic gymnast, a former professional modern dancer and choreographer, an active member of the Caltech theater community, and a member of the team behind PHDComics.com/tv. “As a scientist and a communicator, Crystal hopes to chip away the mystique of the academic ‘ivory tower’ and reveal researchers and their work as human, relevant, and ‘cool.’”

    Thanks for covering this!

The event is actually for kids in *grades* 6 through 12, not kids aged 6 through 12 years old.

We would be most appreciative if you would note the correction.

  2. Tara K says:

Major error in this article — for *grades* 6-12, not ages 6-12.

  3. Kat Ward says:

    Corrected. Thanks!
