Elif Savas, Mary Kelly, Simone Vitucci and Erika Walczak are the foursome behind CHROMA, which strives to create “musical adventures” for kids.
On June 7 at the Altadena Library, members will perform their latest show Critters.
Critters includes excerpts from Johann Strauss, Phillip Strauss, Henry Mancini, Pink Floyd, Igor Stravinsky, and Erik Satie performed by an ensemble of cello, viola, violin, and soprano.
Chroma has an ongoing series at the Pasadena Conservatory of Music and it was the winner of the 2014 Encore Producers’ Award at the Hollywood Fringe Festival.
Elif is a native of Istanbul, studied violin and graduated in opera. She moved to America in 1994 and directed a documentary film called Coup about the military coups d’etat in Turkey. She’s also published three books and writes a monthly column about gourmet cuisine and food history.
Mary is co-chair of the Suzuki Strings Department at the Pasadena Conservatory of Music. She’s performed with Rod Stewart, Josh Groan, and Clay Aiken. She’s also been a guest artist with Chamber Music at the Barn.
Born in South Africa, Simone began playing the cello at nine years of age. She earned a scholarship to study in America, earned a masters degree from Notre Dame, and studied at Yale with Eldo Parisot. Her music has been featured in movies, South African radio, and on KCRW.
Erika has toured with Rod Stewart and Yanni, appeared on television with James Brown and Whitney Houston, and recorded with Elton John and Queen Latifah. She’s a registered Suzuki violin teacher and a certified hatha yoga instructor.
