Bookmaking, Zines & Collect, Connect, Create

Jul 15, 2015

corita_foreleanor_600Sister Corita Kent was not only a Sister of the Immaculate Heart, but an artist. And religiously, socially, culturally, and politically conscious. The exhibit at Pasadena Museum of California Art “Someday Is Now: The Art of Corita Kent” is the first exhibition covering her entire career, three decades of “producing groundbreaking work.”

On July 25th, PMCA offers a bookmaking workshop for children of all ages. It’s going back quite a few decades, but we remember making books of our own as one of our favorite pastimes. August 8th at 2 p.m.: Second Saturday Docent Tour that will be followed by a screenprinting demonstration.

Another workshop for kids will be held on August 22nd, 2-3:30 p.m.: Collect, Connect, Create. While learning about “how Corita Kent’s work draws connections between things she saw and collected,” kids are invited to make their own collage.

In late August, comic artist and author Yumi Sakugawa will lead a zine workshop on “mindfulness, meditation, and comics.” Now that is an interesting combination. Space is limited. RSVP required.
