Crescent Farm: Hands-on Workshops

Jun 17, 2015

10409324_413215098828331_1154057583221556826_nIn the heart of the L. A. Arboretum is a land that’s been reclaimed, becoming a hub of exploration and experimentation.

Crescent Farm.

This “reclaimed landscape”—one acre of former lawn—just north of Baldwin Lake is where the Arboretum “experiments and explores new and ancient horticulture techniques for water conservation and food production.”

Crescent Farm’s workshops are part of the educational training program, and are held Tuesdays and Thursdays, 10 a.m.-4 p.m.

Here's our swale, slowing, spreading and infiltrating. It is also cleansing the water through the use of mulch and plants that filter the flow. This could and should be a deeper cut to increase the amount of water that can enter the site which was mounded in its years as a lawn; all photos courtesy of Crescent Farm/L.A. Arboretum

Become a gardening adventurer! But make sure to wear close-toed shoes and a hat, and bring your gardening gloves and some drinking water.
