Sitting in a garden on a lovely Spring afternoon reading a good book. Putting down the book to take a sip of your tea, then picking up your journal to write a few lines. To many people, inserting themselves into this scene would be like experiencing a little piece of heaven.

Unfortunately, for too many people a moment like this is not a possibility because they—adults—can not read or write.

Sunday, June 3rd, Monrovia Public Library will be hosting an afternoon tea in their garden to raise money for their literacy program that trains volunteers to tutor adults to read and write. The program provides one-to-one tutoring, and computer and video instruction.

Loose Teas Cafè and Gifts will be providing tea service. Homeboy Industries, Something Healthy, and almost a dozen other restaurants will be providing pastries, sandwiches and desserts. A musical performance will create the ambience, and a silent auction will also wet the appetite.

Tea in the Garden: A Benefit for Adult Literacy
Sunday, June 3rd, 1-3 p.m.
Monrovia Public Library, 321 S. Myrtle Ave.
