Establishing a Historic District & Applying for the Mills Act

Mar 30, 2016

historical-home_Pasadena-CAOur appreciation to Pasadena Heritage for the text below regarding a seminar about establishing a historic district, which will be held April 9, 10 a.m.-noon

In Pasadena, neighborhoods that are designated historic at the local (city) level are called Landmark Districts. These are areas in which historic buildings and their settings are protected by municipal zoning laws. In most cases, designation makes owners eligible for grants or tax incentives for rehabilitation projects, such as the Mills Act.

But how do you know if your property or neighborhood is eligible?

How do you apply for either program?

In advance of the May 2nd deadline for Mills Act applications, these questions and more will be addressed. Participants will get a review of the application process, up-to-date program details, and a first-hand look at the pro’s and con’s. Speakers from the City Planning Department and Landmark Districts will outline what to expect and what you should know before applying to each program, with additional time included for questions and answers. This event is free, but you must RSVP through Eventbrite; register here. (A $10 donation will be requested at the door.)
