A little known fact of Pasadena’s New Year’s Day parade-and-football machine is that they give back a considerable amount of money to our local non-profit organizations each year. Last week the Tournament of Roses Foundation announced this year’s grants – a total of $98,000 – to a mix of 25 civic, educational and cultural organizations in our San Gabriel Valley, eight of whom were first-time grant recipients.
The TOR established their Foundation in 1983 to manage charitable contributions on behalf of the Tournament of Roses. The Foundation funds sports and recreation, visual and performing arts, and volunteer motivation and leadership development with grants ranging from $1,000 to $10,000. These grants will help support new and ongoing programs benefiting children, teens, adults and seniors.
Some standouts for 2011 include new drumline equipment for the PUSD marching bands, a bicycle camp for for individuals with Down Syndrome, new pitching machines, feeders and balls for Babe Ruth, choir scholarships, costumes and equipment, woodworking classes for all PUSD 3rd graders, swim programs and more.
The TOR Foundation receives donations and gifts from the Tournament of Roses Association, its supporters, and the general public. Organizations or individuals interested in making a contribution or submitting a grant application should contact the Foundation at (626) 449-4100 or click here.
