To Race for Equality: A Virtual 5K

Mar 19, 2017

At the Pasadena’s latest Commission on the Status of Women, we met, finally and happily, Jessica Kubel, Executive Director of the YWCA Pasadena-Foothill Valley. We thank her for the text below…

Many of you know how proud and honored I am to be involved with the YWCA Pasadena-Foothill Valley. As Executive Director, I am passionate about the programs we provide, and recognize that there is a great need for programming such as ours in Pasadena and surrounding communities. We are dedicated to helping girls and women in our area achieve their goals of academic, professional, and personal success. The YWCA has been in Pasadena for over 110 years, and with proposed federal budget cuts, our programs risk being cut as well. We cannot let our legacy of working for women and girl’s equality come to an end.

I am inviting you to join us and support our 4th annual Race for Equality. This unique race is a virtual 5K (or whatever distance you prefer) that you can do anytime and anywhere in the world! Join the team, set a goal and share on social media with your friends, family, and colleagues. Our walk is virtual, so you can go at your own pace and on a date that works for you. Please donate today and show your commitment to empowering girls and women in our community.

By participating in or making a donation to the Race for Equality, you are helping the YWCA Pasadena change the world, one girl at a time. Key to our work are innovative, multi-disciplinary programs that allow young women to build a community, explore future educational opportunities and careers, expand their worldview, learn about nutrition and fitness, and create lifelong friendships. All proceeds from this event will benefit our TechGyrls and Express Yourself afterschool programs, and our Girls Empowerment Summer Camp. We greatly appreciate your support!

How will your money go towards supporting the YWCA Pasadena and its programs? Here are some areas where funding is needed:

$50 covers the transportation cost for one girl to be picked up after school for our programs.

$100 covers healthy snacks and food for one month for our afterschool programs.

$200 provides a scholarship for a girl to attend one week of Summer Camp.

$500 covers supplies for one semester of TechGyrls or Express Yourself.

$800 provides a scholarship for an entire 4 week session of Summer Camp.

$1,000 provides our program girls with a fun and educational field trip.
