Mumbo Gumbo by Beltran

What seems more appropriate for a back lot location than to feast on “finger-slinging” seasoned shrimp, to smell the aroma of “pot-loads” of Louisiana gumbo, and to let your body move to the beats of Wrek N Sow and Lisa Haley & the Zydecats?

This Sunday (it’s a busy weekend; plan carefully ’cause there are so many events to plan for!), Chef Claud Beltran will be hosting his 6th Annual Mumbo Gumbo Fest at the Boston Court back lot.

To get your saliva flowing, imagine starting with a plate of chicory greens with red onions, tomatoes and some Cajun Caesar dressing. Then let’s get a bit messy; “peel and grub” Mexican white shrimp with Texas crawfish boiled in garlic, lemon and Tabasco served with garlic aioli. Drooling yet? This will be followed by chicken and Andouille gumbo served with green onion rice and baguettes. And if your stomach can find one more nook to fill, you can top all this off with some Bananas Foster Flambè.

Proceeds from this event support Rosemary Children’s Services Cottage, a group home for 19 teenage foster girls. The money raised will be put towards a much-needed bathroom remodeling (remember: teenage girls). To help these girls get a bathroom of their dreams, you can also participate in a one-of-a-kind raffle: a catered meal by chef Claud Beltran of Claud Beltran & Co (and co-owner of Noir Food & Wine) for 10 of your favorite people to be held on the grounds of the Arboretum in Arcadia.

Sponsorship for the event will be $1,000 for a table.
