Benefit Shopping

Nov 16, 2014

10000 Villages applesBuying gifts for the holidays can be a tortuous event if we are already overworked, out of time, and exhausted.

But as the holidays approach with Thanksgiving in our midst, quickly followed by Hanukkah, the Winter Solstice, Christmas, and Kwanzaa, we try to make sure we check our pace.

So one day, we’ll park the car, lock it with our iPhone inside, stroll the sidewalks, and behold the decorations the City has hung with care and the shop windows with festive lights, colors, and displays. It’s our major holiday season come once a year. It’s feels good to take a moment, to pause, to see and listen, to taste and sing, to remember and be grateful, to smile and laugh, and to give heartfelt kisses and hugs. ‘Tis the season…

One way to enjoy the shopping blitz and also know that the dollars spent are benefiting others is to stop by Ten Thousand Villages. The store’s fair trade arts and crafts are lovely, beautiful, useful, silly, and fun. We always find a present or two (or three) here during the holidays.

On November 22nd, Ten Thousand Villages is hosting a kick-off party for their Holiday Benefit Shopping program. They will donate 15% of everybody’s purchase to an organization of their choice if it’s mentioned during checkout. Fifteen percent donations will continue through December 6th. Buyers may also enter the name of their favorite organization into a drawing for “the extra donation prize.” Sign up your favorite organization at BenefitShopping.

The evening will include holidays tunes on the piano and small bites from Real Food Daily.
