Alice Sebold, author of the international bestseller The Lovely Bones will join Charles Yu and C.D. Wright at the 19th anniversary party for Pasadena’s own Red Hen Press.
The three acclaimed authors will do readings of their work and Brendan Constantine will emcee the event in the Westin Pasadena’s Fountain Ballroom on November 10th. On hand will be Mayor Bogaard, the L.A. Times and KPCC’s Patt Morrison, the Sid Fleishman Humor Award-winning author Lisa See, poet and novelist Ron Carlson, and author and essayist Susan Straight, among others.
An online silent auction continues until November 9th and includes such items as a signed, first edition of Collected Poems by Edith Sitwell, a personal tour (for 15 persons) of visual artist Lita Albuquerque’s private studio and a signed print, a private dinner for eight created by chef Onil Chibás, and two nights at a Nevada City Retreat. An interesting addition to the line-up is theoretical cosmologist Sean M. Carroll who specializes in dark energy and general relativity. Carroll has been “described at a gifted science communicator.”¹ He has appeared on the History Channel, as well as Comedy Central. The direction or flow of time (arrow of time) is discussed in Carroll’s From Eternity to Here, and The Particle at the End of the Universe discusses Higgs boson and “the mind-boggling world of dark matter.”
Proceeds from this event “will help Red Hen Press continue its tradition of literary excellence by supporting its operations and programs, including the press’ work in local schools.”
