A Night at the Colony: A Wicked “Wicked Lit” Fundraiser

Apr 12, 2017

From staged readings of a brand new Wicked Lit play and a Twilight Zone episode to an one-act horror comedy and “Shakespearean Burlesque,” the Colony State is the place to be on April 23.

This is not only an evening of sauciness, horror and comedy, but a fundraiser for Wicked Lit, the unique creation of Unbound Productions, adapting literary horror classics to fit its unique brand of theatre: immersion in the story as the actors play their roles and travel from scene to scene, bringing the audience with them through the hallways and headstones at Mountain View Mausoleum and Cemetery.

Toil and Trouble… was founded in 2015 by creative producer Burgundy Kate, and is Los Angeles’ first Shakespearean Burlesque company. Why Shakespeare? Well, while we all admire the classical renditions of the Bard’s great works, and while we adore the modern movie adaptations (Dicaprio or otherwise) we still can’t help but feel that we can bring a bit more (or less) to the greatest plays, and sonnets, and characters ever written. The men and women of Toil and Trouble are made up of some of the greatest burlesque performers in Los Angeles… and, lets face it- when the greatest burlesque performers in Los Angeles team up with the greatest playwright in the history of the english language… only great things can come of it, right?

The new Wicked Lit play is Tieg O’Kane and the Corpse by Kerry Kazmierowicztrimm, adapted from the short story of the same name by Ernest Rhys (1859-1946), while the Twilight Zone episode to be read is “The Lonely” and directed by Jeff Rack.

The Voodoo You Do by Andy Schultz, directed by Corey Chappell and presented by Force of Nature Productions, is the evening’s one-act horror comedy.

Besides sipping on “sumptuous” wines and “decadent” desserts, guests are welcome to participate in a silent auction, which includes goodies from The Walking Dead, items from The Twilight Zone, memorabilia from the latest Ghostbusters film, ScareLA Fear Freak passes, Pasadena Playhouse tickets, and Geffen Playhouse tickets.

Admission is limited to 200, so purchase your tickets as soon as possible.
